Abortion with Vacuum Anesthesia

Abortion with Vacuum Anesthesia

Vacuum aspiration is a medical procedure used to terminate a pregnancy. It is typically performed as a surgical procedure and is usually applicable up to the 12th week of pregnancy. The procedure is based on the principle of removing the tissues inside the uterus through suction.

How is Vacuum Aspiration Performed?

  • Preparation: Before the procedure, the patient is usually prepared by visualizing the cervix with a vaginal speculum and applying local anesthesia.
  • Suction Application: After the cervix is dilated, a vacuum device (vacuum aspirator) is inserted into the uterus. This device removes the uterine tissues by suctioning them out.
  • Completion: Once the procedure is completed, the uterine cavity is emptied, and the removal of tissues is observed.

Risks and Complications of Vacuum Aspiration

  • Risk of Infection: As with any medical procedure, vacuum aspiration carries a risk of infection.
  • Uterine Injuries: Rarely, injuries to structures such as the uterus or cervix may occur.
  • Bleeding: There is a risk of excessive bleeding during or after the procedure.
